Russia’s Segezha considers establishing paper packaging production in Vietnam

  • Russia’s Segezha Group is mulling the possibility of setting up paper packaging production Vietnam with the prospect of deliveries to the markets of the Association of Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN), a company representative confirmed to Fastmarkets RISI. The cost of such a project is estimated at around $50 million.

    When looking at the option to establish paper packaging production in Vietnam, the company takes into account the restrictions on plastic packaging adopted in ASEAN countries, Segezha’s vice president for state programs, sustainable development and forest policy Nikolay Ivanov said during the Eastern Economic Forum which took place in Vladivostok, Russia, last week.

    Segezha declined to comment further on details of the possible project for the time being.

    Segezha Group produces industrial paper packaging at three plants in Russia and seven plants in Europe: in Germany, Denmark, the Netherlands, Italy, the Czech Republic, Turkey and Romania. The group’s total packaging output is over 1.3 billion sacks per year.

    In October 2021, the company opened a trading division in Singapore to sell its entire range of products in the Asia-Pacific region.
