  • A fire that broke out at the Serang mill operated by Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper, a subsidiary of Asia Pulp & Paper (APP), on the evening of Sunday February 5 was extinguished by staff shortly afterward.

No casualties were reported, but a recycled containerboard machine at the facility, PM 1, was affected, a source at the company said.

The damage to PM 1, which has a capacity of 380,000 tonnes per year, was minor. The machine is expected to be repaired and to resume production next week, the source said.

The massive 550-ha Serang plant, located in West Java, Indonesia, is one of APP’s production bases for packaging materials such as recycled containerboard and cartonboard. It houses six machines with a total capacity of 1.7 million tonnes per year.
