  • SINGAPORE, 28 April 2022 (Fastmarkets RISI) - The attorney general of Indonesia has seized paper and board mill assets and real estate worth an estimated $140 million belonging to the Johan Darsono Group.

The five seized mills, which are currently out of commission, are Kertas Baschuki Rachmat Indonesia (KBRI) in Bayuwangi, Elite Paper Indonesia in Purwakarta, Integra Lestari in Mojokerto, and Summit Paper Indonesia and Mount Dreams Indonesia (MDI) in Gresik.

The facilities have a cumulative capacity of 560,000 tonnes/yr of linerboard, corrugating medium, tissue, and printing & writing paper.

KBRI was listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, but the trading of its shares was suspended on April 22, 2019, when its lack of profitability became clear.

The group’s head, Johan Darsono, is undergoing investigation for money laundering.

If he is convicted, the mill assets will be assessed by the Public Appraisal Service and then auctioned off, with the proceeds compensating the state treasury.
